Abstract

The contemporary woman is gradually breaking through the shell of narrow domestic existence and is beginning to participate in the larger life of the nation and even humanity. They have to be made aware of themselves and their tremendous skills and potentials due to the meaningful facilities of higher education, employment and high cost of living. More and more women are entering into employment.

            In this context, an attempt is made to know the nature of employment and migration status of unorganised women workers in selected industries and it  has been discussed through analysing the variables such as type of industry, nature of job, occupational pattern, distance of work place from their residence, mode of transport, occupational mobility of workers, number of times job changed, channels of recruitment, reasons for selecting the job, willingness to change the present job, reasons for changing the job, reasons for not changing the present job, type of skill, increase of income in the past five years, migration status, age, distance, nature and number of times migrated, reasons for migration, nature of work before migration, length of stay and present status of migration are covered in this paper.
