Abstract

Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) has been one of the most important flagship programme of Government of India since March, 2008. The nodal agency of this programme at the central level is Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC), under Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) and State Khadi & Village Industries Board (KVIBs), State KVIC Directorates, District Industries Centers (DICs) and banks at the state level. As the name implies, the main aim of this programme is to help the fresh entrepreneur in building their own enterprises by providing them loan at a reasonable subsidize rate. This paper will highlight the major initiatives taken by the competent authorities under Government of Mizoram in implementing the PMEGP programme. It will also attempt to highlight the issues and challenges in carrying out this programme.
