Abstract

In India, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are home to several indigenous tribal groups. Many of them are still practising their own traditional way of livelihood, because they are forest dwellers or live close to forests. Even though some tribal groups migrated to the nearest cities or rural areas, they continue their unique inhabitual dwelling places. As a result, they may be
completely or partially isolated from others and it is very difficult to approach them. Though the tribals belongs to nomadic society, each and every tribal community of the world has its own unique characteristics and lifestyle depends upon their own country’s geographical features, climate etc. Likewise, in India, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has six principal tribal
communities like the Great Andamanese, the Jarwas etc with their distinct origin, lifeways and challenges are briefly overviewed.
