Need for cyber crime awareness in Mizoram with focus on women respondents

Abstract

It is the information age and people on a large part rely on the invention of technology to access their requirements whether pertaining to intellectual or entertainment.  The Mizo population has off late become greatly advanced with regards to access to the internet and social media sites. It has been witnessed that the female population has been highly targetted in various forms of cyber crime by threats and blackmail often even leading to the point of death by suicide. While such has not been recorded so far in the state of Mizoram, there has been a steady rise in blackmail and threats to various women through social media and internet and also scams where they are tricked of huge sums of money.  CBS reports that 80% of cyber crimes go unreported due to lack of awareness. This research aims to study the extent of awareness of cyber crime among the people of Mizoram with a focus on the women.
