Technology-Enabled Industry Readiness In Higher Education: Bridging The Graduate Employability Gap Through Digital Upskilling And Academic–Industry Synergy

Rapid digital transformation across global sectors has fundamentally reshaped workforce expectations, presenting new imperatives for higher education systems. Contemporary graduates require competencies extending beyond traditional theoretical knowledge, encompassing advanced digital literacy, workplace technological proficiency, and complex critical thinking. This review paper investigates the integration of digital upskilling into graduate employability frameworks, evaluating the impact of technology-driven training, pedagogical innovation, and institutional-industry collaboration. Relying strictly on secondary literature, the study demonstrates how digital technologies are revolutionizing skill acquisition, pedagogical delivery, and career placement mechanisms. Furthermore, it explores the critical role of industry engagement—via internships, applied workplace projects, co-designed curricula, and professional certifications—in advancing competency-based learning. The paper also identifies key systemic barriers to effective collaboration, including outdated curricula, insufficient industry participation, and faculty unpreparedness. Ultimately, the study concludes that enhancing graduate employability and placement outcomes demands a strategic convergence of digital upskilling, competency-based education, and sustained academic–industry partnerships.
