Abstract

This study uses a qualitative design based on in-depth interviews to explore the digital media literacy practices of freelance journalists in Mizoram. It is crucial to comprehend how independent journalists use digital platforms and maintain journalistic standards in the quickly changing media landscape. The results show independent journalists have a good grasp of media ethics and journalistic conduct, as well as a sophisticated comprehension of and skill with using digital media tools. Participants demonstrated a thorough understanding of digital media literacy. They demonstrated their ability to recognise reliable sources, interact with a variety of audiences, and effectively use multimedia storytelling strategies. Additionally, participants had a strong understanding of the moral ramifications that come with working in digital journalism, highlighting the significance of truthfulness, equity, and openness in their reporting methods. All things considered, the study emphasises how important digital media literacy is to modern journalism, especially when it comes to freelancing in Mizoram. Through shedding light on the methods and viewpoints of independent journalists, this study advances knowledge of how digital media literacy influences journalism in the modern era.
